Kitchen aprons are different from aprons that the wait staff uses primarily because of the different materials used to make them, which includes vinyl, latex, Nomex and naughahyde. The aprons used in the commercial kitchen are designed mostly for use when washing dishes or for added protection around the back of the house. Kitchen aprons have many different sues that they are designed for in the back of the restaurant, the most common being dishwashing. There are disposable dishwashing aprons and reusable, more heavy-duty aprons. These aprons are design to be worn in front of the dish washing stations in the restaurant to prevent workers from getting absolutely soaked from the water backsplash that is all too prevalent in kitchens. They cover from the top of the chest down to about the knees depending on the height of the employee.
